Porsche Cayman Summary 2012

NEW FOR 2012:

- New Cayman R and Cayman S Black Edition

For 2012, the Porsche Cayman adds two new models. The Cayman R is lighter and more powerful than the standard Cayman. The Cayman S Black Edition is limited to 500 models worldwide, and features a ten-horsepower boost and more equipment than the regular Cayman S model.

The Cayman and Cayman S share their platforms with the Porsche Boxster, but with fixed roofs. The Cayman uses a 2.9-litre horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engine, while the Cayman S models use a 3.4-litre six-cylinder that makes 320 horsepower in the Cayman S, and 330 horsepower in the Cayman R and S Black Edition. Both engines mate to a six-speed manual transmission that can be optioned to a seven-speed PDK double-clutch automatic gearbox.

Features on the Cayman include 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, heated seats, head and thorax side airbags, start-off assist, anti-theft system with interior sensor, keyless entry, tire pressure monitoring system, three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows, CD stereo with iPod interface, Bluetooth connectivity, garage door opener, cruise control, locking glove box and storage compartment, heated mirrors, roof rack system installation preparation, automatically-deployed rear spoiler, and fog lamps.

The Cayman S adds 18-inch alloy wheels, red-painted calipers, and aluminum-coloured instrument dials.

The Cayman R adds 19-inch alloy wheels, lowered sport suspension, limited-slip differential, Aerokit front and rear spoilers, lightweight aluminum door skins, carbon-fibre-backed sport bucket seats, 911 GT3 RS interior door panels, black-framed halogen headlamps, contrasting side mirrors, and side stripes. It does not come with air conditioning or a stereo.

The Cayman S Black Edition builds on the Cayman S and adds 19-inch Boxster Spyder design wheels, monochrome black exterior and interior, aluminum and stainless steel interior accents, Sport Design steering wheel, black instrument dials, bi-xenon headlamps with dynamic cornering function, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, navigation system, Bose surround sound system, XM satellite radio, Porsche crest on the head restraints and glovebox-mounted limited-edition badge.
